It is time to seriously consider taking a Disciple Class? Disciple is a broad and intensive survey of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. There are many levels of Disciple. The Disciple Class schedule we are offering this year is as follows:

Disciple Fast Track Disciple I (taught in 24 weeks instead of the usuial 34)
This class will be taught on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 PM by Tom Hall. If you haven’t taken a
Disciple Class before, this is the class for you. You will read approximately 70% of the Bible, enhance your personal faith journey and have in-depth discussions with your classmates regarding the material you have read. Orientation will be held Tuesday, September 6 at 7:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall, and classes will start on Tuesday, September 20. This class is needed before you are able to take any other Disciple classes.

Disciple III Remember Who You Are:
will be taught by Bill Evans on Thursday evenings from 7:00-9:00 PM.  Disciple III focuses on the Prophets and The Letters of Paul. Orientation will be held on Thursday, September 8, at 7:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall, and classes will begin on Thursday, September 22. Disciple I is a prerequisite for
this class.

Pastor's Monday Night Study Series - Joseph

Many of us know the story of Joseph from the Book of Genesis. He had ten brothers who didn’t like that he was the favorite son of Jacob. So one day they sold him as a slave and he was taken to Egypt. How would you feel if your family sold you into slavery? The first of Rev. Jones’ Monday Night Studies is called, “Joseph: The Journey to Forgiveness.” This is a six-week DVD-based study by Melissa Sproelstra, and it begins on September 12 at 7:30 PM in the fellowship hall. To sign up, please email the church office ( or call the office (301-934-2288).

ssicon2Wednesday Morning Bible Study

The Wednesday Morning Bible study continues to meet at 9:30am every Wednesday morning in Conf. Room 2 at LaPlata UMC.    We take a summer break, but still meet monthly for lunch at a local restaurant.   Here is our lineup of studies from September 2015 through May 2016:

September 9 – November 11:  “Bad Girls of the Bible” by Liz Curtis Higgs.  Through this study, we learn the lessons that these women have to teach.  Higgs provides humor and deep insight as she teaches about the nature of sin and goodness

November 18 – December 16 :  “Forgiveness” by Adam Hamilton.  In this study, we will discuss the challenges we face in learning to forgive and ask forgiveness and we will learn how freedom, grace, reconciliation, and joy are all promised to those who embrace forgiveness.

January 6 – January 27:  “Before Amen” by Max Lucado.  Max gives us a simple yet powerful prayer to pray each day.  Max states that “Prayer is not a privilege for the pious, not the art of a chosen few.  Prayer is simply a heartfelt conversation between God and his child.”  This study will help change you from being a prayer wimp to a prayer warrior.

No class February 3 – Snow make-up day

February 10 – March 16:  “The Family of Jesus” by Karen Kingsbury.  In these lessons, Karen Kingsbury focuses on Jesus' earthly family: Joseph, the man who raised him. Mary, the girl who gave birth to the fulfillment of Prophecy. James, his brother who struggled.  John the Baptist, his cousin who prepared the way for him. His Aunt Elizabeth and his Uncle Zechariah, who were waiting, and working and hoping.

No class March 23 – Snow make-up day

March 30 – May 18:  “The Workbook on Keeping Company with the Saints” by Maxie Dunnam.  Maxie Dunnam guides readers through the lives and teachings of Willam Law, Julian of Norwich, Brother Lawrence, and Teresa of Avila.
