Rev. Dr. Bruce A. Jones

Rev. Dr. Bruce Jones Welcome

It is my absolute joy and privilege to be the pastor of La Plata United Methodist Church. I believe that God has called me to be the pastor here for “just such a time as this” in our church's history. On behalf of the entire congregation, I want to welcome you to our church's web site, and I'd love to have you come and get a feel for our church family.

We are an open church that welcomes all who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ or who are interested in learning more about him. We are a diverse and growing congregation with groups and activities for all ages.

I want to personally invite you to join us in worship any Sunday morning at either our 8:30 AM Café Worship Service or our 11:00 AM Traditional Service. Or, if you enjoy a more casual and contemporary service, please consider trying our Wednesday evening service at 6:45 PM. I hope you will give us a try, and I look forward to meeting you.

About Our Pastor

Rev. Jones has been the Pastor at La Plata United Methodist Church since July, 2008.  His experience includes serving as the pastor at five other appointments during his tenure in the ministry since 1980.

During the years that Rev. Jones has been with La Plata, our church has experienced growth in numbers and in spirituality. Under his leadership, our church has added hundreds of new members. He encourages the church to be involved in a very active missions program, serving the community in a variety of ministries including an annual missions work trip to various parts of the country rebuilding after major storms and constructing homes for the poor and homeless.

Rev. Jones is responsible for adding our Wednesday evening worship service which we call “WOW” (which stands for Worship on Wednesday), as well as his popular Pastor's Monday Night Study classes. He has also encouraged others to teach classes during the week and on Sundays, and now we have a robust adult Christian education program.

Rev. Jones was born in Baltimore. He is married to Dawn Jones, and they have a daughter, Courtney, who graduates from college in the spring of 2016. He also has three daughters from a previous marriage; Kristin Jones, Kat Summerford, and Lindsay Gadell. They are all grown and he also has three granddaughters.  Another grandchild will be born in November.

His many interests include: watching sports (especially the ones he used to be able to play), golf (which he still thinks he can play), messing with computers (software & hardware), doing graphic art & drawing, and he has a lifelong interest in architecture & design.
